What is the book about?

This book is an emotional rollercoaster, it takes you on a journey in more ways than one. Omar  and his mother are desperately trying to escape war in his home country of Afghanistan. In a cruel twist of events, Omar jumps on a boat alone, but promises to stay safe and meet his mother at his Uncle Said’s cafe in Fore Street, Mevagissey, England. This book tells us of Omar’s adventures on the seas and his desperate attempt to be reunited with his family.

The plot

Event 1 – Omar escapes Afghanistan but has to leave without his Mother. He promises they will meet again.

Event 2 – Omar’s boat is lost in a storm, Omar is washed up on a magical and mysterious island.

Event 3 – Omar is taken in by tiny people called the Lilyputians, they make him a home and treat him kindly. Omar needs to repay their kindness, but will he ever make it back to his mother?

This is Omar

Favourite character: Omar

I like Omar because he is brave and fearless. He never gives up hope of one day being reunited with his family. He is also incredibly kind, he makes good friends with the people on the Islands of Lilyput and Bluefesco, he teaches them how to play cricket and makes them see that arguing with people will only ever make you feel sad.

Who should read this book?

I would strongly recommend this book to anybody who like fantasy and adventure books. You may like this book if you enjoy The Harry Potter series. Also, if you have ever read any of Michael Morpurgo’s stories before such as Warhorse, and you were like me and thought they were fantastic, then this is definitely a good book for you.
